Gdańsk offers an unusual mix within a fifteen-minute drive: the gabled houses of the Main Town, harbour quays, shipyard cranes and the Baltic. In summer, though, the Long Market is full of visitors from late morning, and the wind off the bay can rearrange a veil in seconds.
Weddings here often begin in St Mary’s Basilica or Oliwa Cathedral and end at a seaside hotel in Sopot or a lakeside venue in Kashubia. Our Tricity photographers have shown us whole days in exactly those churches and venues, they know where a wedding car can stop near the Green Gate, and several of them work comfortably in English. Every reply to a Gdańsk enquiry is written by one of us and names the photographer, the hours and the fee.
Further down: the Baltic and Main Town backdrops, the hour when each is calm, how long the hops between Oliwa, Śródmieście and Brzeźno take, and what changes the price. Read about the service under wedding photography, the city in our Gdańsk guide, and compare cities on wedding photography in Poland.
Where the session happens
- 01
The Royal Route: Long Lane and Long Market
From the Golden Gate to the Green Gate, past Neptune’s Fountain and Artus Court, these are the city’s most recognisable frames. In summer the street is crowded from late morning, so come at dawn or stop briefly on a weekday on the way from church.
Best time: Sunrise to about 8 am.
- 02
Mariacka Street
Stone terraces in front of each house, gargoyle rainspouts and the brick wall of St Mary’s Basilica at the end. Narrow and shaded, it gives soft light even at midday and is almost empty early, before the amber shops open.
Best time: Morning; also good on a cloudy day.
- 03
Motława waterfront and Ołowianka
The Long Embankment with the medieval wooden Crane, boats and reflections of the façades, and across the river the quieter Ołowianka island facing the whole skyline. From Ołowianka you get the Main Town without a crowd around you.
Best time: Golden hour and blue hour after sunset.
- 04
Oliwa Park
Clipped lime avenues, ponds, a palm house and Oliwa Cathedral next door make a green, ordered backdrop from spring to autumn. Check the rules for professional sessions with the park’s managers.
Best time: Mornings in May and June; October for colour.
- 05
Brzeźno beach and pier
The closest wide beach to the centre, with a short pier — sand, dunes and open horizon without Sopot’s crowds. It is often windy, so plan the veil and dress with your photographer.
Best time: Evenings outside peak season; dawn in summer.
- 06
The former shipyard
Cranes, brick halls and quays around the European Solidarity Centre suit couples who want raw, modern frames. Parts of the area are being redeveloped, so your photographer checks access beforehand.
Best time: Sunset and overcast days.
Typically included
- A planning talk, including the drives between Oliwa, the city centre and a seaside venue
- Getting ready, the blessing and leaving the house or hotel
- The ceremony in church or at the register office, from the entrance to congratulations
- Family and wedding-party groups from your list
- Portraits by the Motława or on the beach, if timing and weather allow
- The reception: first dance, cake, oczepiny
- An online gallery of edited photos; delivery date given in your proposal
Preparation
- Give your photographer every address and time; Oliwa, the Main Town and Brzeźno are further apart than they look on a map.
- For portraits by the water, bring veil pins and a warm layer; the bay is windy even in summer.
- Keep 20–30 minutes for golden-hour portraits between courses.
- Check the photography rules at your church or registry office.
- For a July or August wedding, plan Main Town portraits early in the morning or after dark.
Time of day
Around the solstice the sun goes down over Gdańsk Bay at roughly 9.20 pm, which puts the warm light halfway through dinner. For a separate session, the Long Market belongs to you only at dawn, and Brzeźno beach is loveliest on an evening outside the holiday months.
Weather
On the coast the weather turns fast: sun, cloud and rain can all come within an hour, and the wind rarely drops. Spring mornings are often misty. Plan B is the doorways of Mariacka Street, the water gates along the Motława and the venue itself.
Getting there
Walk the Main Town. Oliwa and Brzeźno are a 15–25 minute tram or car ride from it. Summer parking by the beach and inside the old centre is scarce, so stops are planned ahead. Allow proper driving time for venues in Sopot, Gdynia or the Kashubian lakes.
Photographer availability
We confirm availability for your date personally — send a request and we will check which reviewed photographers are free for this place and session.
Check availabilityFrequently asked questions
How much does a wedding photographer in Gdańsk cost?
Booking a Gdańsk wedding photographer for the full day starts at PLN 8,000, covering around ten hours and some 400 images. High-season dates, a reception beyond the Tricity and a second shooter are what usually push it up; the proposal lists each separately.
Which Gdańsk spots work best for wedding portraits?
Couples usually choose between Długi Targ, Mariacka Street, the Motława quays, the lime avenues of Oliwa and the dunes at Brzeźno. On the day, one place near your venue is realistic; a separate session can link two or three.
Can we add the beach in Sopot?
Yes. A favourite plan starts among the gabled houses of Gdańsk at sunrise and ends on the sand and pier in Sopot at dusk. It works best as its own session, since Sopot is 20–30 minutes up the coast.
What happens if the Baltic weather turns on the day?
Your photographer scouts sheltered corners in advance, such as the stone terraces of Mariacka Street and the water gates on the Motława. Beach portraits can move to a calmer day as a separate session.
Do you cover weddings in Gdynia or Kashubia?
Yes, photographers work across the Tricity, including Gdynia, and the surrounding area. The cost of travel is stated in your proposal.
Can you find a wedding photographer elsewhere in Poland?
We can. There are pages for Kraków weddings and Warsaw weddings, and an enquiry can name any town.
