Łódź grew rich on textiles in the 19th century and still looks like a film set: miles of red-brick mills, industrialists' palaces right next to their spinning halls, ornate tenement façades and courtyard passages. Many of these buildings now hold lofts, culture centres and restaurants, so brick, steel and tall factory windows are on almost every street.
The city suits couples who want an urban, slightly cinematic look, and anyone booking a personal branding session: industrial interiors and murals make strong backgrounds for business portraits. Brick also looks good under a grey sky, which in Poland is a real advantage.
People book here mostly for couple photoshoots, wedding portrait sessions, family sessions and portraits. Łódź is close to Warsaw and Poznań, so it is easy to combine a wedding in one city with a portrait session in another.
Photo spots — Łódź
- 01
Piotrkowska Street
The city's main street, more than 4 km long, with a pedestrian central stretch of eclectic and Art Nouveau tenements. Along it you find bronze bench monuments, a Walk of Fame set in the pavement and Pasaż Róży at number 3, a courtyard covered in thousands of mirror fragments that throw light around. The gateways and courtyards give shade and interesting backgrounds even at midday.
- Best time
- Weekday mornings, before the terraces fill, and blue hour when the street lamps come on.
- Access
- Central, a 15-minute walk from Łódź Fabryczna station. Pasaż Róży is sometimes closed, so check opening hours.
- 02
Manufaktura
Izrael Poznański's former textile works, turned into a shopping and culture complex around a huge cobbled square. Restored brick halls with rows of windows surround it, and in summer fountains play in the square. It is the easiest place in Łódź for an industrial backdrop with a café nearby for a break.
- Best time
- Early morning and evening; weekend afternoons are crowded.
- Access
- A few tram stops from the centre or about 20 minutes' walk from Piotrkowska. Private property: a professional shoot may need the management's consent, so check before the day.
- 03
Poznański Palace
The textile magnate's ornate palace beside Manufaktura, now the Museum of the City of Łódź. The richly decorated façade, balustrades and the garden behind create an elegant, almost Parisian contrast with the plain factory brick across the street. A good spot for wedding portraits and formal outfits.
- Best time
- Afternoon, when the façade is evenly lit; the garden before sunset.
- Access
- On ul. Ogrodowa, opposite Manufaktura. Photography inside the museum only by arrangement with the museum.
- 04
Księży Młyn
Karol Scheibler's former factory settlement: rows of red-brick workers' houses, a vast spinning mill converted into lofts, the Herbst family palace and a pond in the park beside it. The cobbled lane between the workers' houses is one of the most recognisable frames in Łódź. People live here, so photographers work quietly and keep doorways clear.
- Best time
- Golden hour, when the brick turns warm orange. Autumn with yellow leaves.
- Access
- About 15 minutes by tram from the centre, next to Źródliska Park. Cobbles and uneven pavements.
- 05
OFF Piotrkowska
A former factory complex at Piotrkowska 138/140, now full of bars, studios and design shops. Raw walls, murals, neon signs and steel staircases give a relaxed, modern feel that suits couple sessions and portraits in everyday clothes.
- Best time
- Afternoon and evening, when the neon and the string lights over the courtyard come on.
- Access
- Directly on Piotrkowska, a few minutes' walk from the centre. Private property: behave as a guest and do not block the venues.
- 06
EC1
The former city power station next to Łódź Fabryczna, restored as a culture and science centre with a planetarium and a science museum. High brick halls, chimneys and new glass elements make monumental, geometric backgrounds, ideal for business portraits and individual sessions.
- Best time
- Any time; brick looks best on an overcast day. After dark for the lighting.
- Access
- Beside Łódź Fabryczna station. Photography inside needs EC1's consent, so ask in advance.
- 07
Źródliska Park
The oldest park in Łódź, with spreading trees, ponds and a palm house. Next to it stands the Scheibler Palace, home to the Museum of Cinematography. It is the green counterpoint to factory brick and the best central spot for a family session with children.
- Best time
- Late afternoon from spring to autumn; colourful leaves in October.
- Access
- By Plac Zwycięstwa, a few minutes from Księży Młyn. Flat paths, pram-friendly.

Seasons
Spring and early summer bring green to Źródliska Park and Księży Młyn and long evenings; in June the sun sets around 20:55. September and October give warm tree colours against the brick and an end to the heat. Each autumn a light festival projects onto buildings along Piotrkowska: a striking backdrop, but crowded. In winter the factories look good with snow, and Manufaktura has an ice rink and Christmas decorations.
Time of day
Golden hour is the time for brick: Księży Młyn and Manufaktura turn warm and soft. Mornings leave Piotrkowska and the Manufaktura square almost empty. Blue hour works on Piotrkowska, at OFF Piotrkowska and around EC1. At midday, retreat into gateways, passages and building shade. A sunrise or weekend slot may cost more; this is stated in your proposal.
Weather
Łódź lies in flat central Poland with a typical mixed climate: warm summers, damp autumns and changeable winters. It is one of the most weather-proof cities for photographs: brick and neon look good under cloud, and in rain you can move into gateways, passages and covered courtyards. On hot July days choose the morning or evening, because the Manufaktura cobbles radiate heat.
Getting there
Trains from Warsaw reach Łódź Fabryczna in about 1.5 hours; the station sits next to EC1 and 15 minutes from Piotrkowska. In the centre you can walk or take a tram: Piotrkowska, OFF Piotrkowska and EC1 are close together, while Manufaktura and Księży Młyn lie on opposite sides of the centre. For a multi-spot session a car helps; the centre has paid parking.
Good to know
Streets, parks and public squares need no permission for a private session. Many of the best places in Łódź, however, are private property (Manufaktura, OFF Piotrkowska, the Księży Młyn lofts, EC1), and a professional shoot there may need the manager's consent and sometimes a fee; check before the day. At Księży Młyn, remember the residents. Drone flights in the centre are restricted, so check the zones on the official drone map. See starting prices or check your date.
- Against brick, choose earth tones, navy or white; red clothes merge with the walls.
- Pair Manufaktura with Poznański Palace: they face each other and give two completely different looks.
- Do not cancel at the first drop of rain; the gateways on Piotrkowska and the OFF Piotrkowska courtyard give shelter.
- Book Księży Młyn for golden hour and keep voices down, as people live there.
- Visit Pasaż Róży on a sunny day: the mirrors bounce light onto faces.
- Wear comfortable shoes; most factory courtyards are cobbled.

Check availability in ŁódźFrequently asked questions
How much does a photoshoot in Łódź cost?
A short session starts from PLN 500 and a couple photoshoot from PLN 750. The price depends on the photographer, length, time of day and number of spots. You see the exact figure in your proposal before you confirm.
Where are the best photo spots in Łódź?
The favourites are Piotrkowska Street with Pasaż Róży, Manufaktura, Poznański Palace, Księży Młyn, OFF Piotrkowska, EC1 and Źródliska Park. The factories give an industrial look, while Źródliska adds greenery. A one-hour session usually covers two neighbouring spots.
Do I need permission to shoot at Manufaktura?
Manufaktura is private property, so a professional shoot may need the management's consent. The rules can change, so check directly with them before your date. The streets around it and the street side of Poznański Palace are good alternatives.
Is Łódź a good day trip from Warsaw for a photoshoot?
Yes. Trains from Warsaw take about 1.5 hours to Łódź Fabryczna, which is a short walk from EC1 and Piotrkowska. A morning or afternoon session fits comfortably into a day trip.
Is Łódź good for business portraits?
Yes; EC1, OFF Piotrkowska and the Księży Młyn lofts give modern, consistent industrial backgrounds. A personal branding session starts from PLN 950. See personal branding photography for what it includes.
What happens if it rains on the day of my shoot in Łódź?
Rain rarely ruins a session in Łódź: the gateways on Piotrkowska, the passages and covered courtyards give shelter, and wet brick shines nicely. In a downpour your photographer will suggest another date. The rescheduling terms are set out in your proposal.
